Hi

There not bad comming off. we most of the time use a center punch with the motor sitting on my lap and giving the punch a few smacks nocking the axal loose.

That is the way we have been doing at our shop for years. that how my grandfather tought us.

 We sell the wheels. Henningstrains.com

I agree with Harry, I use a pin punch to drive the axle from the wheel. (My "O" gauge wheel puller is too small.) I see some folks on Ebay sell faucet handle pullers as standard gauge wheel pullers. I guess that would work. (I have one to pull faucet handles, haven't tried to pull a wheel with it)

I use a press with the proper wheel cups to mount the new ones.

Chris, a couple of thoughts for when you get your new wheels.

Be sure that your source provides you with wheels that are reamed to the correct axle diameter for your axles. Some wheels were made with grossly undersized axle holes that will require reaming. I have found MEW to be my wheels of choice - the axle holes will be properly sized.

And secondly, be sure to clean up the "flashing" from the gear bearing surfaces. The gear should fit flat against the back of the wheel. Otherwise they will wobble and cause engagement issues and they may loosen over time. I scrape these areas with an Xacto knife.

A good job of swaging and you will have a great runner!
