I know Halloween is around the corner, but this is strange. I was driving up to NJHR yesterday with 2 engines I picked up at York for Ben. they are ps3 engines. while driving I hear a diesel engine starting up in my back seat. it ran for about 5 seconds and faded away. spooked me for the day

John, what would really spook you is if you heard the same sound on the way home after delivering the engines. Hmmm, there's still time.
Hmmm . . . Gotta give that ghost points for creativity.
Brief discharge of some residual stored electricity in the circuitry? Is there a battery in there?
The worst is when you hear a wind-up musical statue go off that hasn't been touched
I have a television that kept turning itself on until I finally unplugged it. I ascribed it to the internal clock and some sort of malfunction in the on/off timer. Yeah, that's it. Most of us here are way too old to believe in ghosts!

It's DCS. Get ready for all sorts of whacko behavior.

The engines actually work great. Since these are PS3 they use Super Capacitors in place of batteries. Capacitors charge up and discharge slowly. Its an electronic thing not an MTH thing. There was probably enough charge to start the sounds for a little while. Not haunted just as designed.
But then they were just probably excited to be going to a good home!
1.21 gigawatt flux capacitors? Marty!
George
I believe in ghosts.
I have a "ghost engine".
The MTH diesel set with the NP F5 ...
It's the only one on the layout that will start moving in dark stealth mode without a command being sent to it by me.
Lots of engines and this is the only one that will "ghost coast" ... has to be parked on a dead track to be safe.
Not a case of duplicate engine ids, etc. Been all over that for this engine.

You may be onto something. JohnS, what speed were you driving at when this happened?
My guess would be 88 MPH!
I was going 69 on rt9 in 6 gear 1800 rpm, no bumps, just repaved. spoooooky
Hmmmm. 69 in 6th on 9..... There's a pattern building here.
MAN! I wish I had a haunted engine like that.
To quote Edgar Allen Poe: "The dead are but for a moment . . . motionless."
OK, but what is it when a postwar steamer makes noises when it is sitting on the shelf?
There is a new Reality TV show coming soon..."Possessed Engines". From the commercials it is apparently quite common but more prevelant in MTH trains. Shirley McClain is the host. It is on channel 69 at both 6 and 9.
Well, at least its not on at 3:33. Actually, there is a guy on TV who calls himself the "Haunted Collector", and he specializes in removing haunted items from people's homes. Its another form of "I'll take it off your hands...". I don't recall him ever dealing with a locomotive, however.

Perhaps it's the quiet creaking of the casting as it crumbles away to dust.
Could be, but its Lionel, not Dorfan.

LOL... I here ghost trains in my sleep all the time! Oh wait I live near the tracks

Well I fired up the ghost engine last night Both of these were weathered by Steve C ( Corsair29 ) of the weathering station They are grundgy enough to have ghosts in them Look awesome I have to post some pics Steve had asked me " How much weathering would you like " My answer was As much as you have I want that look the Jersey central had. Grundgy but not as bad as Penn Central "
I saw this last night and the weathering was fantastic!
It was so realistic, it made you feel grungy just looking at them!
Forget about touching them, you could catch something!
And the sound, was well let's just say, when some of our Club Members hear it, their mouths will drop!

I saw an episode where he ran out the door and wouldn't go back in, some hunter he is
I saw a show of "A Haunting" the other night about this woman that had some activity in her house. After a few days, she called her cousin who was in this line of work. Turned out, her cousin was the "Haunted Collector"!!! Why did she wait so long to call him ?
I looked to see if SyFy had a "Ghost Train" movie. Didn't find one, but can only hope the folks who did "Ghost Shark" don't head up the team if a movie is made.

LOL, I think Ghost shark was a spin off of the SNL skit... Land shark... not. Had to change the channel on that one.

Probably because she knew that he'd give her the same old "I'll take it off your hands" line.
