While the TIU has had improvements to it's software, electronics, and components in its different versions manufactured over the years I've been told the parts and eletronic components in the remote have been virtually unchanged but how about the DCS wifi module? Are the electronic parts and components in the most recently manufactured ones the same as those in the first DCS wifi module made by MTH? I'd like to know since I want to support my LHS and buy the wifi module there but since he sells very little DCS so I'm concerned if I'm sold a wifi module he's had in stock since they were first introduced it might not have the most up to date parts and electronic components.

AFAIK, the only thing that would be different between the first production WIU and one made yesterday, would be that the first one had 1.0 firmware and one made yesterday would have 1.1 firmware.
The WIU's firmware is something that you can easily update yourself using a web browser.
Barry didn't state here, but the upgrade to the 1.1 firmware is pretty mandatory if you want it to work properly.
I have new in the box MTH Wifi modules with 1.0 firmware. Can I take them out of the box and directly upgrade to 1.1 firmware or is there some other configuration work that need to be done first ? Thanks in advance.

Absolutely! Just access the full WIU user guide by clicking here and follow the instructions on page 11.
Thanks Barry !! I also have used your DCS Companion for years in designing and constructing my layout with great success. Your "Companion" is an invaluable reference.
Steve,
Your "Companion" is an invaluable reference.
Thank you for purchasing my book and also for the kind words. Both are most appreciated!
Barry, I use your DCS Bible and refer to it often. Your latest book rocks. It is clear, concise, and since sometimes I have difficulty understanding the printed technical stuff, your pictures are invaluable.
