Headlight Fried?

Did you take shell off?  How's the wire from the board to the headlight?  Was it pinched somewhere?

I do not have TMCC, I only run this engine in conventional mode. Also, I have never taken the shell off of this engine. 

Well, I can tell you that it's unlikely to be diagnosed without taking the boiler shell off if smoke was coming out!

How would I successfully take the shell off of this engine without tearing up any other internals? 

Well, that one shouldn't be hard, but without knowing your skill level, that's a tough question to answer. 

To give you a bit of a convoluted idea, I have absolutely no experience with a soldering iron, paintbrushes, or Prewar/Postwar Lionel, but I probably won't need that to fix this situation

I think you assume facts not in evidence.

Ok, so today I have planned to disassemble the Hudson, but I have no idea where to start. Which screws will I need to remove to take off the shell/boiler casting to access the possibly burnt out board? I don't mean to be a burden or inconvenience to anyone...I'm sorry if that might be the case :/

You should simply start by removing Screw #24 pull off boiler front #3.  Take a look inside at the bulb and wiring from there before you pull the whole shell off.

I removed the boiler front, but I don't see any apparent damage. Is it time to take the shell off now? :0 

Yes.  I see a screw #25 from the top.  Take that out next.  If the shell does not pull off, then check screws #26 from the bottom.
