Great day yesterday and Thursday for bad weather buffs!

Thank you for the comments on the previous posts guys, I’m really humbled by your nice words. This is a lot of work and effort very different than the modeling and model photography.

Yesterday before sunrise I was down on a ex-railroad access road deep in the tunnel district and encountered a slough of bentonite which is much like grease when coupled with 2’ of snow I almost didn’t get out, thank goodness for chains good grief. And, to get the shot I did it was a 1/2 mile hike in from where I left my truck. Ugly

Hope you enjoy the efforts

Eldorado Canyon displays its meteorological phenomenon common after heavy snowfall. The rolling cloud banks coming up from Boulder Valley is a frozen fog of evaporated snow. Even with temperatures in the low teens in this image by noon the sun will have removed 90% of the snow from the trees, something that must be seen to be believed. Just the same these moments are rare and extremely short lived. Between the time window of the weather a matter of 2-3 hours and having a train turn up it’s an improbable scenario not often duplicated. Here, deep in the tunnel district Amtrak number 5 is hugging the valley east of Crescent and past Tunnel 12 in the 2.85+ grade. The only thing I hear is number 5 in and out of the tunnels since coming around through South Draw the GE’s grinding away echoed in the canyon silenced by the heavy pillows of snow. A memory frozen in time.

Heavy hoarfrost coats everything in sight, not snow, a frozen concoction of moisture. Number 5 is busily moving along through Clay, now renamed after a retiree of the Union Pacific, Eiesle. In 6 minutes number will be at the horseshoe and entering tunnel 1 then Plainview and on to South Draw and the fabled tunnel district. By tomorrow morning Utah and California.
