I have a cream and green Hellgate bridge that I want to sell but I am not sure if it is Lionel or MTH. It says Lionel 300 on it but it is in a MTH box. How do you tell the difference?

MTH has been making all of Lionel's tinplate for several years. Look at the stock number on the side of the box then go to the MTH product locator and check it out.
Look at the "pateina" on the bridge itself, it is possible that someone stored an original Lionel piece in an discarded MTH box.
Seems to be too old to have been produced by MTH for Lionel. Seems very likely that it is an older Lionel production piece.
Assuming it's modern and not old enough to resemble the pic JohnS posted(rust, chips, etc - I assume that's a pre/post war piece)?
I do not know if it is true of all Lionel modern production, but there were some of the modern Lionel's that can support 2 O Gauge tracks going through side by side. It was suggested by a dealer of mine that the MTH versions were not manufactured in that way.
If I have time when I get home, I'll try to post a pic of a modern Lionel unit (though mine is the silver/red(like in John's picture, but a modern unit), not the cream/green).

$300 plus shipping. Brand new never been on a layout, just sat in the box it came in.
I have the Lionel reissue from the late 1990's. It is wider than normal to accomodate two O gauge tracks.
I didn't have time to take a pic yesterday, but I noted the modern unit I had was actually badged as a "305" on the ID plates, so maybe that helps narrow it down.
I did note that for the double track feature, there are plastic mounting bars across the span of the bridge (didn't count how many) that have a hole pattern to match O gauge tubular track for either the case of a single track down the middle or 2 tracks side by side.

I love the looks of the Hellgate bridge but just can't find a spot for it on layout. ....someday I'll have room. Thanks for posting pics.
