Hey Guys!

Just getting started with command control, and I would like to have link to the original directions for Hooking up a Cab-1 Trainmaster TMCC system.Looks like it has only 1 terminal.?????Where do I hook up the transformer???(Man,I am I new to this!)

I also need the link for installing The 6-22918 #446 Locomotive Backshop. I had the links saved, but after Lionel revamped their website, the links are broken!!!!(Ahrrhhh!!)(Ran out of ink for the printer that day!!)

The Backshop did come with it's original paperwork,New In Box.The paperwork is dated 10/98,and it does say "Please note the differences in the wiring section when installing your #446 Backshop.

Does this mean that this paperwork reflects the error Lionel made in the wiring directions of the first backshops from 1997? I know that the previous link I saved had an addendum to the Backshop wiring directions that reflected an error Lionel made with the wiring terminals themselves.

Did they actually fix their mistake as production went along? I heard that the Backshops issued in 98' are superior to the ones that ere first issued. Is this true?Did I actually get lucky and get a GOOD ONE???!!!

The directions I have say to hook the LEFT terminal of the Lockon to the right clip of the first set of clips on the right hand side of the backshop(Center rail),and to hook the RIGHT terminal of the lockon(outside rail hook up)to the left clip on the Backshop.

The center and left clips are designated for use with the enclosed switches for conventional operation.

I would just HATE to hook this thing up wrong and fry it,and I know this can happen if you wire it up wrong.

Can I trust the directions from 10/98??? I turn to you,my train brothers let me know if this edition reflects their admission of the wiring error they made.I am leaning towards yes,but I thought I should ask and be safe before sorry.

This thing was not cheap, and I like it a lot.I just don't want to bust my balloon and cry like a kid on this one!!!

Thanks,Kenny Baughman

Check out Link 4 - I believe "2" is the "2 pin Power harness" - Red/Black wires running down to the Connector plate underneath the unit.

The "plate" is mislabel and the upgrade did not fix this.

I strongly recommend double check/tracing the wires to make sure you have the correct connections for the power - if not, you will let "magic smoke" out of the little chips.  While it is easy to swap a new board in, the problem is finding them.  Been there, done that.

Also - Make sure you relabel the connector board once you get it working.   This way you only have to do this once.

Thanks Brad, that is exactly what I was looking for. What makes this worse,is I hope I have the Cab-1 Trainmaster hooked up right.

(1)I have the Hot wire running from the transformer to the lock on (center rail)

(2)I have the 'common'(U)running to the lock on(outside rail)

(3)I have the Trainmaster Base terminal(U)running to the lock on(outside rail)

(4)I have a wire going to the 'left' terminal of the Backshop power clip from the outside rail of the lock on

(5)I have a wire going to the 'right' terminal of the Backshop power clip from the center rail of the lock on.

I am getting ready to fire it up.  I will wait a little while to see if anyone responds to check my hook up. I am certain I have the Backshop wired up correct.I hope I have the Cab-1  wired up correctly.

I pray to The Lord, protector of ALL that is good and holy I don't see any MAGIC SMOKE!!!!!

Life should not be this difficult. That is why I have been a conventional holdout.

Any company should not release a product that is labeled incorrectly,at least without putting a sticker on the bottom to indicate where the power should be hooked up correctly. This is not a $50.00 item.

How much could it possibly cost to produce a label to place on the bottom to warn the consumer?

God,please let them bring production back to the United States!!!! Someone please check my wiring!!!If is was not for the forum,I would have never known about this defect anyway!!!!

I am going to go say some prayers, and them attempt to enjoy my New In Box Backshop that I always wanted!!!!Someone please respond and check my wiring as I have it explained.

Thank you-Kenny Baughman

Hello! Eureka!! It works!!!  Thanks to everyone who helped me out!!!

Overall,it is a cool building, but it will require a lot of tweaking brand new out of the box to get it to operate reliabily on the layout.

And,be very careful.Put it somewhere where the wind won't blow on it,or it will get bent. What a cheaply made piece.I'll probably sell it,I use my stuff.I'll end up wreckin a highballin freight train into this thing!!!!

Don't get wrong,it is cool. But it needs more lights, and a lot of dressing up to fit in on your layout.   I'm awful glad I got the deal I did on it,brand new in the box.  The Chimney smoking is way cool also.  Everything works on it.I am pleasantly surprised with that. Needs tweaking, but everything will be alright with it.-Kenny
