I don't know how or where I lost it but now I can't find the gray safety tread piece that was on the front of my MTH DD40AX engine. I doubt that MTH just sells the piece by itself since it's attached to the shell. I've included a picture of where it's gone and what it looks like. Any help would be greatly appreciated in solving my delimma. Thanks and I can be contacted in my profile.

Those are put on with contact cement and are a monster pita. You can call MTH and see if they have a donor shell they can grab one from. Chances are not huge.
Thanks Marty, I figured that might be what I have to do but maybe if a person can buy a sheet of that stuff you could make your own. I think a fly could have spit more than what was put on by the factory. I would hate to purchase a entire shell for such a small piece. Hopefully more people will see this and have a solution.
You do not need a shell. I run into this often with older steam locomotives. MTH does not have sheet stock in Maryland. Look up K&S they have sheets of many items. If you find what you need, I have that engine and will be happy to pop my walkway and make you a pattern. It is ouit there, you just need to find it. Just a wild thought, look up model ship building supply people.
I think I have the right website but I'm not sure Marty. You wouldn't happen to have a link to their website would you? I might take you up on your offer if I can find the sheet. Thanks for all your help and I appreciate you helping me out.
