I'm "renting" the car from my LHS. The instructions that came with it are not very clear. I am using Woodland Scenics Coarse grey ballast, about the same size they give you in the baggie. Anyway, no ballast is coming out. I tried adjusting the black track/rail spacer up and down but no luck. Anyone have any tips? I'm using 0-27 style Lionel track

SD: My LHS and I agreed to deal with a "rental fee" after we see how it works. It hadn't been used before so I volunteered to be the "lab rat" to see how it worked since I mentioned I was re-ballasting my track. The manufacturer includes some of their ballast, which I also tried to no success. After looking at the car, it appears that the chute for ballast to flow onto the track just before one of the brushes is way too narrow causing little, if any, material to come out. Can't say I had good luck and I tried many times. They are not cheap either - $200 a pop new! Another thing is I did not want to tinker with it since it wasn't mine. Maybe a slight adjustment is all it needs.

I followed the instructions exactly - possibly I missed something...either way, I spent a good portion of my afternoon and evening and will do the same for tomorrow, carefully re-ballasting my track by hand and will bring the car back to the LHS and share my experiences.

Can't help you either. If this one doesn't work out, I got this one on eBay.

It works great and is very simple to use. Only $30, and yes the guy really ships from Istanbul Turkey. This is one time it's really worthwhile to use Paypal. Here's a picture of our club modular layout that we ballasted with it. Six tracks, twelve feet,
