I can not say that you have an EP-5 as the chassis and the wheel arrangement are of a GG-1 configuration. The Pennsy GG-1 and the NH EP-5 are two different models, at least Lionel should have made it that way.
What you may have is a modified GG-1 with a NH EP-5 shell on it. Both are electric locomotives, but with different power uses.

Homemade attempt at a little joe?
i should have made it clear...i was trying to track down it's origin maybe someone has seen it i know it's not lionel made.....joe
My guess is you have a home made locomotive from spare parts someone had. Or they really wanted an EP-5, but were only able to get a shell, so they mounted it on a GG1 frame.
thank you dennis...that is just the info i was looking for...can you point me in the right direction to contact Ray?......all the best...joe

Sorry I don't have an email address.
I should also mention, the time frame I would have seen those units in his shop was 1991/92 and at that time, he/we were putting together engine's from new parts stock he had, including shells. I purchased a GN EP-5 from him (normal drive train) that he had installed postwar decals on an MPC shell. So it also might be worth looking at yours to see if you can determine is actually an MPC shell.
Dennis...i knew i could count on a navy man for the info...my shell is post war,the frame is very well done like he had a machine to do it....it fits like a glove...thanks again for the info...joe USS Cook DE1083
