I've got a Lionel #69 Motorized Maint. Car and a Set of Santa Fe #218 AA Alcos experiencing a few issues. The #218s run great in forward, but in reverse they will barely move & often struggle to even move at all. Any ideas?
The Maint. Car does the same thing, but in forward and reverse. Any help would be appreciated.

I am not familiar with the model nos. but if they are conventional type, my guess is they need the motors cleaned.

I'm guessing these are the AC motored units. Failure to run properly in one direction is frequently worn bearings or gears in older Pulmore motored units. Of course, Dennis is correct in that the first step is to disassemble, clean and lube.
Also check the brushes and plate. If they were run most of the time in one direction there could be wear issues that interfere with the motor being able to run in reverse.
