Hi...

Im trying to help a friend ID the attached engine/tender, he got these when he was a kid so there is emotional value in

having them repaired and running. He isn't a collector but just retired and would like to set up a layout and run these at some point.

So #1) can anyone help with ID on these #2) can you suggest who/where to send them to be cleaned up and repaired

Id truly appreciate your help.

Many Thanks in Advance

Hi. The loco is a Lionel 2036 'Adriatic' or 'Prairie' type locomotive from 1950, and I believe the tender is a 6466W.

The locomotive should have a working headlight and magnetraction, but no smoke. The tender should contain a whistle.

There are numerous places where you could get this locomotive serviced, and I'm sure that someone will suggest one that is local and/or most convenient for you. There normally isn't too much to go seriously wrong with one of these.

The tender needs to be re-wired for the center rail pick-up, a very common problem that can be fixed pretty easy by somebody who knows electric wiring.

The engine probally needs the motor cleaned and lubed being from 1950. Also one of the front lenses or jewels was missing in the photo of the engine, only a couple of dollars to install a new one.

I have a few post war engines by Lionel and they run very well, just need to service them a little more. Have two pre war train sets, don't run them much, one sounds like it needs a new E-unit installed; a # 249E from 1939.

FOLLOW UP:

Well first off Thanks to Chuck Sartor at Only 3Rail ...We sent in the Engine & Tender plus a small repair job on my Daughters Engine and in short order all were returned at a VERY FAIR price!!!!

They arrived yesterday and so today Del and I put the old Engine/Tender on my layout and ran them. Del just stood there smilin! When I hit the whistle he darn near cried as it had been about 60 years since he had heard that sound! He was telling me how the first time he heard this horn was in 1949 when his Dad gave him the set and it was running under the Christmas tree at 4:00 am!

So SPECIAL thanks to Chuck as well as all those who helped out ID the Engine/Tender and gave us Chucks name.

As I have always said...folks on this board are awesome and time after time they have offered good advice and helps! This time you outdid yourselves and made a guy very happy and brought back some mighty special memories!

Best Holiday wishes to all

Bob
