I recently acquired the ABBA diesel units for my Erie Lackawanna passenger consist.  They are Lionel 6-24538 (ABA set) and 6-24534 (powered B unit), and I run them on TMCC.  The existing consist includes the Lionel EL Phoebe Snow Passenger Coach with Station Sounds (6-39104).  The latter unit worked fine with my previous EL diesels, which were run on conventional power.  I figured out how to create a lash up for the new powered A and B units and operate them with a CAB-1 remote. When I try to activate the Station Sounds, it appears to deactivate the powered AB units. This happens when I initially activate the AB units either as a lash up (using the TR key) or separate engines (using the ENG key).  For example, when the train approaches a station, I activate the Station Sounds by pressing the ENG key and code for that unit.  I must then re-activate the AB units, to slow down and stop them.  This deactivates the Station Sounds unit, which I would like to operate through its sequence.

Can this be resolved by using a different sequence of commands? Could I solve this by purchasing a separate CAB-1 remote and operate the AB units separately from the Station Sounds unit, which I am willing to do (can pick up a used one)?

Many thanks for any advice.

Michael

PS: This is my first post on this specific forum, but I've had lots on the other OGR forums with super help.

Thanks, Bobby, but here's the problem.  Each unit (diesel vs diner car) requires a different trigger on the remote before you enter the code for the unit. The diesel is a lash up, so it requires selecting the TR button. To activate the signal to the diner car, it requires selecting the ENG button.   Once that second action is taken, the diesel does not respond to any commands from the remote (it's "deactivated"; poor term?).  I cannot slow it down to a stop, unless I again select the ENG button. Then I can control the lash up, but I lose control of the diner car.  It's sequence of Station Sounds is lost. So it appears because of the different trigger buttons, I can control only 1 unit at a time, either the diesel or diner car.

My first post asked for advice on a work around. I did not get any replies, so I went with a second remote. Success!  If I can activate 2 separate units, each requiring selecting 2 different system buttons (ENG vs TR) on the remote, I would love to know how.

Thanks

Michael

I think you answered your own question...you need to/can address each engine or car independently pressing for example, "engine 1", the ENG button, and then you have to press "ENG" AGAIN in order to address another car or engine.

It's a bit laborious....but that is how TMCC works...to be honest...I also have two Cab1 remotes...one for me, one for guests...if I run two different consists at the same time...it takes hardly a winks time to go back and forth...

Thanks redjimmy, but there is a bit of a difference when switching between a motorized unit and the diner car with a Station Sound sequence of announcements.  Once you begin the Station Sound sequence, it requires additional commands that differ whether the car is in motion as it approaches the station, stops at the station, then moves again as it leaves the station.  Of course the diesel unit must also be sent commands to alter its motion. So the sequence begins with a TR command to slow the motion, then a ENG command to start the Station Sounds sequence as it approaches the station, then back to the TR command to stop motion. Once I return to the ENG command for the diner car, it reacts as though the sequence goes back to the beginning, so the announcements are not appropriate.  It gets worse once I give another TR command to move the consist out of the station, then go back to the ENG command for departure announcements.  So its not just simply controlling the speed of 2 engines, but going through the announcements of the diner car in proper sequence.

In any event, the second remote has solved this issue.  Actually it makes it a bit more fun, as I can engage a grandson with one of the remotes, as I operate the other one.

Many thanks,

Michael
