I want to build a conveyor belt to move some coal around. I imagine that building it would be straight forward but I don't know anything about motors, motor shafts are mounting things to them. Would someone be kind enough to point me to a dc motor and pulley that would work together. I want to have a 1" wide conveyor belt utilizing one motor and multiple pulleys to convey coal.

David,how about a motor from a gas grill rotisserie?They run at about the right speed and you can get them at home depot for 20 bucks.You could hide the motor inside a building.Just an idea.Good luck with your project.Nick
I'm interested in finding a good source as well. I have a Winter related project that will need a long belt and pulley.
Look on ebay at 'gear head motor'. Many to choose from. Size, power, RPM etc.
Complete how to on making a working conveyer would take a 3-4 part article in OGR.
