Hi Everyone,

i am a newby and am having trouble with my Lionel with Railsounds. Although I am posting on 027, my Lionel is G Scale but am hoping someone may have some suggestions about the RailSounds.  My GP9 model number 8-85000 is giving me a fit.  The horn sounds once or twice when I push the sound activator when just starting up the loco and then will not operate again until shut down for a while.  I have changed the sound activator and that is not the problem.  Oh, and also, if I activate the bell, it does not stop!

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

This may not apply to the G scale version, but some earlier versions used in O gauge used to carry a warning in the manual to not activate the horn or bell for a few seconds after start-up, otherwise unexpected events could occur. Also, when you say that the bell does not stop, are you releasing and then pressing the bell again? The bell is normally an on-off action. Do you have the 'Noise eliminator' (18-5110-150) fitted into the wiring between the transformer and the track? The manual states it may not work without one being fitted.  Please accept my apologies if these are silly questions, but it never hurts to check the obvious as well as the more obscure.

Boy, that was quick!  Thanks for your suggestions.  I have a retail hardware store and this train runs thru the store on a suspended railway system.  I have tried new batteries and the "noise eliminator" which I believe is just a simple inductor coil is "in line" on one side of the transformer To the track power.  When I press the bell function and release, it rings and never stops regardless if I press the button again.  Instructions say to wait at least 3 seconds, which I do. I am not sure what "filtered DC" is.  I have an MRC Tech II 2500 transformer and I don't see anything about "filtered DC" on the instructions?

thanks again!
