It's got so much. Very nice. I'm particularly taken with some of the box car "art"... I mean art.
Thanks for the heads-up and link.
That is an impressive catalog.
I have to say that I am apprehensive after my recent experience with the terrible QC on my scale PE and PRSL cars... kind of a shock or flabbergasted feeling in my gut. Half have been repaired or replaced and another five pending.. I am cheering for Lionel though, I love Legacy controller and steam sounds and smoke and greatly appreciate that they're still making PE trains and items.

Pricing is out of control.
I'm not opposed to fantasy schemes on scale items but at least make them look good, too many here with hideous paint schemes. The 49er es44ac, are you kidding me!
Hint to Lionel on Fantasy schemes, the last catalog of MTH has a scale es44ac in the chessie gold scheme, now that works!
Dave
I did some editing....Save your comments about QC...not appropriate in this thread.
Promontory Sets Fine Print: Look for hand-built SCALE 4-4-0's in May...Smd4!

For the first time in a long time I have seen some items, even a little higher than I like but I liked and might consider. I'm liking the idea behind lionchief 2.0 but waiting to see reviews on it by other folks first. I tried to find any lionchief 2.0 on charles ro and not there yet, so I'm guessing there isn't even any to be had yet.
Question on Page #24, Is Lima Locomotive Works a close enough model for the 1:1?
Other than both being a Class A Shay, not really.
Lima #2 was a 60 ton shay, the Lionel (ex-K-Line) model is about a 24 ton Shay, and oversized to boot.

I hope that Lionel gets the Road numbers right on the ALCo/ Ge Fa-2 demonstrators... although the stirrup steps will likely be wrong and curve OUT instead of IN!
I am glad they are adding to the military cars with 75th anniversaries of D Day, Battle of the Bulge, and VE coming up. Also fond of the pin up art but would have opted for pinups more germane to the era.
The BNSF oil train is likely on my order list. At $999 for the ES44, 2 "buffet" buffer cars, 3 tank cars with modern safety end plates, an acceptable deal for a nice train.
The bandit EL to Conrail geep dummy would be on my list, but at $300, NOPE! I will buy an old MTH P1 unit cheap and decal my own before I pay that much for a dummy! Come on now! As I think about it, I paid that much for my Atlas O U23B powered locos with custom painting!!! Not bashing here, just some "get real!" comments, Dr Phil style.
The 2 car private car sets interest me but I only want the domes out of those. If the NS office cars are the right color and glossy finish I will consider replacing my MTH 18" car set. But MTH got the color and new car finish look just right on their NS office train. Get it right Lionel!
Lots of interesting locos and sets. Allegheny RR, Apache, Erie Mining, all really cool!!!
Fantasy schemes for the bi-polars, well, not my thing, but why not, have fun with it! Hmmmm.. an Amtrak one with GG1 style Amtrak paint would have caused me to think about it, just for fun.
I liked a couple of the building kits; the brewery, office and warehouse together would make a nice industry. I noted a small typo in the brewery listing: 1.6 wide instead of (probably) 16.0 wide, based on the dimensions of the other buildings. I am curious as to what the street price will be on these.
I like the catalog! I was really excited to see an ES44AC in LionChief Plus. Unfortunately, it looks like it may have some thicker handrails, which I don't really like. If they would make nicer handrails on the LC diesels, I'd have purchased a number of them by now. With that said, I really like the catalog and will be buying a few items!
I plan to order the PRR PS1 Boxcar with sound, missed it the first go around. Also will probably order two of the Sherman Flatcars the PRR ones. I really do not need anymore Shermans as I have a ton of them but as Odd Ball says a Sherman can give you a good edge,
Also as a PRR guy I like the Legacy J1 but I have a TMCC J1 that has been upgraded by AlexM with a GRJ Super Chuffer that sounds and runs great and cylinder steam is nice but I’d rather have whistle steam (really like that) so I will most likely stay with my TMCC J1.

Agreed! I have been anticipating these industrial kits. I can see a pleathora of industrial Buildings/plants from these kits!

Well there are two sides of the story. Agreed the pricing for non powered units is high- esp without any roller pick-ups which SHOULD be on the units at that price point. But comparing the U23b which was last out several years ago to today's current market's is a bit unfair. A lot has changed from shipping costs to mfg costs and personnel costs that need to be taken into account. Building a loco void of electronics and motors does NOT save much in the overall price these days. And yes I do BElieve due to the name, there is some price-padding going on.

That's actually one item I am ordering. I am glad Lionel does these one off things.
I'm also one who purchased the Cab Forward Daylight
There are a few items that I would probably never buy (because I am a PRR guy) but I think are real nice:
1. N&W J 603 Freight Version - sick of pulling passenger cars
2. Bi Polar Tin Plate Set - the more I look the better I like it.
3. BNSF ES44AC Oil Set - basic set $1000 not bad, but then I would have to add at least 2 or the 3 add on 3 packs. Total $1500, In a nut shell that is my problem,
Good thing I am a PRR guy,

I'm looking at the Santa Fe Golden Bonnet? Id lke to see it in person or at least in a video before I would purchase this. I do kinda like it but only comes with three 21 inch cars and a 18 inch baggage car. Wish it had a B unit.
I will definitely be getting at least one of the Trackmobiles, probably Granite Run Quarries and maybe Bethlehem Steel. Are these actually with diecast bodies?
Otherwise... nothing else falls anywhere close to a "need".
If you are looking at the printed version only you are missing a really great feature. Several of the sets actual have a click to listen to hear the sounds. Really neat idea. Bravo Lionel!

I'm impressed with the new H O Track.
Great catalog online. The sounds are fun. So many beginner sets! Man, I really have a train problem, there are no kinds of trains I don't like. if I was made of money, I'd have a whole other layout, purposely not realistic, and just run some of these little sets. I wish and hope children would take notice to these.
The golden spike stuff is neat too. Looking forward to seeing the brass models in May that are mentioned.
The BiPolars look awesome. And, a scale PE version, now that's thinking outside the box. If I can continue working in 2019 that's a must for me. A station-sounds hot chocolate car at last.
But, no B&A Hudson? Five NYC versions but not another road name, that stinks.
The prices are pretty scary though. I'll have to wait until I see Charles Ro pre-order list.
Sound boxcars would be my purchase.

The set duplicates the prototype train leased by General Electric for an ad campaign. That's all there was, a PA , baggage and three coaches.

I love these. I wish they'd do some older cars as sound cars, like their nice double sheathed boxcars from several years ago.
Eddie G you are sooooooo right. What are they thinking? Don

Yes, that PE version is cool. And how about the "state set", a scale version of the tinplate. Cool. Pretty ambitious, I wonder how much of this will actually be made. Like I said, if only I were made of money!
RE: The Promontory Set.
So do I have this right? The one offering is TWO General-style locos with tenders for a street price of, guessing, about $500. The only rolling stock shown are two modern box cars which don't go with the steam locos at all.
A curious offering. I initially was interested in these and think it's a cool idea by Lionel to celebrate the anniversary but why not make a General-style set compete with 3-4 pieces of appropriate rolling stock?
That I'd buy.

Additional rolling stock will come later, I would guess - unless there is no demand for the two locs. (Lack of demand for this set is VERY doubtful based on conversations I've had.)
No different than other companies.
My pre-order (locs and two boxcars) goes in soon since I'm headed to Promontory for the May celebrations.

Lionel gave us a demonstration of the HO track at York last year. Truly a work of art - and ease of use.

LOL! You need to review - once again since it's been mentioned numerous times - the cost of Lionel products in the '50s translated into current dollars. And, before you slip in the shower, check around on "street" pricing. You might be surprised.
"Hideous" paint schemes???? LOL! LOL! Just because YOU don't like them makes them hideous - NOT.
"Note to Lionel ... " LOL! LOL!! LOL!!! Yeah, sure. That MTH gold chessie is hideous.

Thanks, RT. Sounds encouraging. I'm really leaning on this one and may pre-order. Guess I'll do my part to see that rolling stock gets made.

Yes pricing is out of control, I have heard this from many friends not just my opinion. I have already checked a few dealers and yes the street prices are very high. If you don't think some of the engines are not hideous, that is your own opinion. The MTH gold chessie may be hideous to you but it is beautiful to me.
Just because you have the money to buy them does not mean everybody does, by all means if you can afford them then buy them but don't demean others who may not.
Dave
Definitely going to pre-order LC+ 2.0 North Pole Central Berkshire and the scale Polar Express Boxcar with freight sounds. The Berkshire would be the 1st LC+ for me. Interesting to me is that the LC+ 2.0 you can run using your Legacy controller which I already have set up. And I just heard a freight sound car in action for the first time at Trainsfest last weekend and thought it was the coolest thing. Can't wait.
I'd be tempted to pre-order the Polar Express Berkshire too, but I do like my MTH Christmas engines and I'm sure they'll be coming out with something for 2019 that I'll want to get. Can't buy it all, darn it.
Even though I haven't bought much new Lionel in quite some time, I gotta say, Lionel did a great job with the 2019 catalog. I will definitely be buying a few things. Way to go Lionel!
