Line 2 of the Form D grants the train authority to:

"OPERATE IN _________ DIRECTION(S) ON ________ TRK BETWEEN __________ AND __________"

For example, on the West Chester Railroad, Line 2 is filled out as follows:

"OPERATE IN _BOTH__ DIRECTION(S) ON _MAIN_ TRK BETWEEN __STATE_ AND __MILLS__"

My layout is setup as a two track main line loop. If I want to grant a train Line 2 authority to operate on the outer loop, then I suppose I would fill out Line 2 as follows (Note the identical station):

"OPERATE IN _BOTH__ DIRECTION(S) ON _OUTER_ TRK BETWEEN _WILLS_ AND __WILLS__"

Now here's my question, clearly the train has authority between WILLS and WILLS, but is it allowed to pass WILLS?

Is the train allowed to pass block limits because it does have authority in the next block? This seems to me to be a reasonable solution.

I realize that I am splitting hairs here and that this is something that would never occur in a real railroading situation. I just thought I'd put it up for discussion.

Thanks John,

One more question,

On the West Chester, our main runs from STATE to MILLS both of which are yard limits. Our West Chester and Glen Mills passenger stations are within yard limits. As such, we enter and exit the block twice per each trip and may do four trips per day.  Each morning, we write the above form D and use it for all trips, canceling it at the end of the day.

Are we doing this wrong or is there a difference (The addition of the yards, perhaps?) between this scenario and my contiguous loop?

Sorry to be a bother,

The whole idea is to enjoy the trains on whatever level you like. Just using a form d is cool and whatever happens between the block limits is up to the person who issues the form d. I once operated on a HO layout with car cards and train orders and found it to be way more intense then the real thing ever was. Besides if you did not work at the RR no one would know the difference anyway, Your railroad your Way !     conrail john
