I'm thinking about "later" having a pair of UP switchers for my KC Lines layout theme.  Seeing as my era is the early-mid 1960's, I would assume the switchers would have the "Road Of The Streamliners" slogan on the cab sides.

Here's my question: What decal source (even HO) has that lettering scheme?  What lettering variations/schemes do I need to be aware of? (i.e. Any font differences between "then" and "now"?)

What are you doing for "oldie" UP decals in S scale?

Thanks.

Hello Andre,

Good to see your active in "S" again. I believe the stock SHS UP switchers had the "Road of the Streamliners" under the cab window but I'd have to check the SHS website to confirm this as I no longer have mine. I used Dave Benson at LBR Restorations USA for my custom "S" scale decals as his are good quality and he's open to small production runs (maybe even a set or two). He has quite a selection of decals on his website but will custom make any  "S" decal from an existing HO or O scale decal if you supply him with a sample. Yes, it will be more expensive this way, but you can have anything that has been produced in HO or O.

Try www.lbrenterprisesllc.com and see what he has.

Thanks for all of you that verified what slogan the box-stock version has.

Unless there were two runs of the UP engines, I must be mistaken on the "We Can Handle It" slogan being on the SHS versions.

What era would the "Dependable Transportation" embrace?

Doing a UP switcher is a looong ways down the road (I think?)... but I would like to know the info before hand.

Have you guys noticed how much foof the UP put on their EMD switchers?  Such things as twin ladders on the front, class lights on some, humongous stacks on others, etc.  That stuff could be interesting to model.  (The gigantic stacks almost look cartoonish!)

Once my host server is back up, I'll revisit this thread and post some pictures of the above mentioned examples.

"Dependable Transportation" began in 1959 with the delivery of the SD24's and ended in 1972, when the slogan was changed to "We Can Handle It."

Rusty

Thanks for that tidbit, Rusty.  Do you know if there were any subtle font changes on the "UNION PACIFIC" on the hood sides, or the same font as previously used?

Looks like I will need to find a "ROUTE OF The Streamliners" decal set when the time comes.

I also remember an "The Automated Railway" slogan w/map graphic that was on the new yellow boxcars in the late 60's.  Guess that slogan didn't migrate over to the locomotives.

Though today's UP is sort of bland (like most of today's railroading), I find the 1st Generation era of the UP quite interesting.

My server's back up!  Hooray!

That so, as promised, here's a prototype picture illustrating the scheme I have been referencing from the same era I am modeling.

Check out all the "foof n' gaggle" on this thing!  And get a load of those cartoonish stacks!  A model like this would no doubt be fun to create and interesting to see on the layout once done.  Loooong ways away, though.
