I believe that all the Golden Gate Depot passenger cars that are supposed to represent prototypical stainless steel, are plated/polished aluminum. Thus, there really isn't anything to "strip off".

Hi Matt....I believe "Hot Water" may be correct.  On the few sets that GGD ran that were supposed to represent stainless, they either plated or polished them.  Several folks here on the forum posted pictures and some commented that the finish was off is some way...seems like it was said they had a "tint" of some sort???  I actually got to see some of these cars and the shine looked like paint but it may not have been.  Either way, in full sun, the prototype...especially when clean and new...really reflected the light and gleamed in the sun!!

Alan

All GGD "stainless" cars are painted except for the original ESE cars which were nickel plated.  It was not repeated due to the high reject rate and the apparent yellowish look.

Scott said the Chinese builders just could not clean and keep the aluminum clean enough for good adhesion and a consistent finish of the nickel plating.  2 cars were rejected for every one that was acceptable.

Hi Steve, I don't have the technology to take digital photos, but I know someone that dose. Give me a bit of time, and I will be happy to do so. BTW, I own a Dachshund as well, or should I say, he owns me.  Originally Posted by TexSpecial:

Mill City, can you post some photo's for us to look at.  I would be very interested in seeing them posted here.  Thank you.

Thanks.  Yea, Dachshunds are a hoot.  They are happy as long as I have blankets scattered around for them to burrow under...oh...and plenty of treats.
