I just got back from the TCA convention in St. Louis and had the chance to visit Alex's Hidden Pass Junction Railroad.  What an amazing layout!

Got me to thinking that there must be several hi-rail layouts back in my town of Kansas City.  Any members on her working on hi-rail layouts that are around Kansas City area?

By asking only for Hi-Rail layouts, you may be limiting your possibility of seeing some really great layouts that may not fit that specific classification that are close by to your home town.

As an example, I do not consider my layout as a Hi-Rail but believe it has some rather interesting elements that might interest a potential visitor. If I lived in the Kansas City area and took what you requested literally, I might have ignored it based upon your definition of what you want to see.  If it were my choice, I would have opened this thread up to layouts in the Kansas City area. Who knows, you might attract some wonderful invitations that otherwise you could miss.

Alex certainly has a wonderful layout and I hope that your thread will yield the results you are looking for. And if you ever get to Northern New England, you are most welcome to visit our layout as well.

Hi Kansas City folks.

My wife Ginny and I will be visiting Kansas City this summer and would love to say hello to Forumites who would be interested in meeting the easterners from Carmel.

Ginny was born and raised in Independence and I love to do train photography in the KC area.

If you're available, let us know. We'll be glad to do the same when you're in the NYC area.

Message from Prohobby:  I reside in the Kansas City area. My main interest is HiRail using the MTH DCS control system and MTH Proto 2/3 diesel equipment.  I build a lot of railcar models from scratch. I also like to modify cars, engines and structures. I run modern CSX diesel equipment plus NYC and Pennsy stuff from the 50's. I also run conventional diesels from MTH, Lionel and Williams.

One of my many scratchbuilt projects is attached.

Eliot,

Sent you an e-mail.

Gregg, CH and ProHobby,

Based on my recent visits to a few layouts (located a ways from KC) other then my own, I gathered allot of ideas for things I would be interested in trying on my own layout.

I was interested in meeting folks locally here in Kansas City that had similar interest in layout building techniques such as benchwork, scenery techniques, control panel design, signal systems, train control  (Legacy/TMCC/DCS/DCC), painting, weathering, air brush usage, scratch built projects, train repair, etc...   I assumed there would be allot of other folks with a similar interest locally.

I have not made much progress recently, but I had tried to document some of my progress in the last few years  on my layout as I went along on the thread below:

Not sure how to start this, maybe a meet and great as mentioned above.

Thanks,

Mike
