Question for those with such layouts, I've designed a loop with passing siding for my bedroom, got the wife's approval, and have bought the required track. Now it's time to design the shelf, and I wanted to know what everyone has done for how close the edge is to the track. I know if the edge is too far you can't see the train, but to make it close to the track to better see the train the risk of a fall to the floor is greater. The center line of my track is 4 inches from the wall so as to be able to put some trees and building fronts between the train and the wall, as well to allow a scale Big Boy to travel without hitting the walls. I have had my wife hold up a 8 inch wide box with a box car on it to see what that looked like from the bed, and didn't like how little I see of the train. We tired the same thing with a 6 inch box and I liked the view better, but it seemed the track was rather close to the edge. As long as I take my time with the track laying, am I just being overly worried?
