That is my grandson's favorite past time. "Can we go down to the train tracks?"
He's been with me for two years and it's still his favorite. The spot has an elevated metro line, a north bound mainline with a 2 mile siding, several switch tracks and a 60 degree crossing for the local freight line to transfer cars.
After a rain, he can float pieces of old railroads ties in the puddles; count the number of cars on a freight; get invited up into the cab of an engine waiting on the siding and blow the horn; dig up wildflowers to replant; look for new and different cars in the consist, take photos and videos, it never ends.
We have had many days that were in his words "the best day ever".
