Trying to go to Harpers Ferry today and was told that trains do go through town. Does anyone know what a good time to be there to see the most action? AMTRAK is at 11:25 and 5:15. Not sure if that is in the historic area or another area. Thanks Ed

Everything CSX east from Cumberland and west to Cumberland goes thru Harper's Ferry. There should be action almost all day, since many trains from the west and east run thru Cumberland, and a few originate and terminate there at the Cumberland Yards. There should be plenty of trains, several autoracks, several containers, and quite a few mixed plus coal, loaded east, empty west.

Decade ago, or more, when I was there, but then there was a passenger station with
people working in D.C. and riding a commuter passenger train back and forth. that I
would expect is still running. Standing there on the platform, you could see trains come out of a tunnel to your left, so it was an interesting sight, but I was then chasing the Civil War history and not trains.
MARC runs through town. That's towards the end of the Brunswick line, but a Google search will find you a schedule. Amtrak east will move through there sometime after 11am. Not too uncommon for it to run an hour or so late. Amtrak west leaves DC a little after 4pm; with about an hour of running time to Harpers Ferry. That will put it in the dark this time of year.
