In doing some family history research for relatives living in Carbon County PA in the late 1800's and early 1900's, I see references to "the Central Railroad". I'm guessing this would be Central Rail Road of New Jersey? Can anyone verify that they operated in that area in that timeframe? Thanks for any assistance!

You are most likely referring to the "Central Railroad of Pennsylvania" which was also the same RR as the "central Railroad of New Jersey".
Jack is correct that the CNJ had a subsidiary in Pennsylvania named the Central Railroad of Pennsylvania. It was an attempt by the CNJ to avoid paying New Jersey taxes on the portions of their railroad that operated in Pennsylvania. The CNJ took this step in 1946, but it was struck down by the courts around 1952.
Since you are talking the late 1800's, it would have been the Lehigh and Susquehanna Division of the Central Railroad of New Jersey.
