I just read up on an article that UPS Stores will roll out 3d printers to an additional 50 locations coming soon. One of which is in Memphis, TN where I am.
So how is this related to us? Well, I don't know the costs or specifics yet but I assume you can upload or take the 3d plans with you to the store and have them print you an item just as if they would copy a page for you. I didn't see anything about having a 3d scanner there also so you probably can't take a hard to find part up there and have it copied, but maybe that isn't too far off either?
Pending pricing, I see the ability to come up with or for guys like me download from sharing sites, the plans for various items and then having The UPS Store print one out.
We could print little figures, railcar parts, buildings, specialty items not made by anyone yet..... etc
The only caveat is price! But you know if you just HAD TO HAVE a certain person doing a specific thing on your layout it can be done by anyone now!
