I have to go up to New York tomorrow. We will be in the lower Manhattan area Friday and Saturday. What are the must see hobby/train stores in the Big Apple. I made a trip to Trainworld a couple years ago.

Not at all! There many great stores in the surrounding area, Toms Trains, Ridgefield Hobby, Nassau Hobby, Trainland/Trainworld. But for get the city. Go to Grand Central and check that out or even Penn Station. Have fun!

put the trains on hold for one day, walk the streets. your going to the best city with shopping, theater, museums, restaurants. Take a ride on a subway and visit Grand Central Station.
Enjoy your visit!!!
Thanks for the reply's.
Mr. Miller,
Tom's Trains in Ardsley NY is a great store and my ONLY place to buy trains. I have been back in the hobby for 7 years and most everything I have purchased has been from Tom. Great store and great staff! A lot of Lionel and a nice working layout. Easy ride from NYC south on the Saw Mill Parkway. I hope you make it!
The only train store in New York City that I know of is the Red Caboose on 45st
There a lot a stuff down there, pricey but sometimes you can find something.

Did the original poster mean New York City as in ALL five Burroughs/Counties or did he mean just Manhattan, aka what almost everyone else on the planet things is New York City?
There are a number of great train shops in the New York Metropolitan area. That includes northern New Jersey, Long Island, Rockland and Westchester counties.
He'll be in Manhattan on Friday and Saturday.

Thanks for all the suggestions. We drove up to New York and visited the girlfriends Aunt that is in the hospital. Spent the night in a Holiday Inn and after breakfast we headed out to Trainland. I have been to Trainworld in the past. Trainland was having a in store 10% off sale and after looking around I purchased a Premier Double Stack car, a packet on N-scale people for the girlfriends layout and a pack of autos. The staff at Trainland was very nice, courteous and help full. The next stop was at Nassau Hobbies. We went in and looked around. I didn't see anything I needed at MSRP, so we moved on. The next and final stop was at Willis Hobbies in Mineola NY. I found a couple rock molds kits that had a decent price. I'm starting to think that the higher the cost of living in an area the more retailers like to charge MSRP. After the trip to Willis Hobbies we headed back to the hospital and went to the Aunts apartment to pick up a few things she needed and spent some time visiting her and headed home. We got back about 8:00pm. If your in the area I would recommend stopping in Trainland. They carry a lot more stuff than they display at York.
