WOW! Quite a bit of engineering and construction costs for what appears to be a "kiddie" ride. Looks like Wannamakers has an abundance of clerks behind the counters. Very neat concept.
Hello, I don't post much here on the forums but this topic brought back lots of memories. Here in Grand Rapids we had a store named Herpolsheimers that had a similar train. And yes, this is the same Herpolsheimers mentioned in the movie "Polar Express". The author is from here (my wife has met him many times in her school) so I have a big love of the book, movie and the Lionel set. Enjoy!
Herpolsheimer's looks just like Wanamakers. The monorail rode over top of the toy department. I wonder why? :-) Parts of the Wanamakers monorail are preserved in Philadelphia at the Please Touch Museum in Fairmount Park. Great memories of riding the "El" into town for the Christmas visit. Lots of wonders in the city back in those days.
