I pulled my Railking GP7 (30-20008-1) out the box today because I haven't run it in a couple of years and wanted to give a go around the layout a few times.  It still has a battery in it so I let it sit on the track for a short while to charge if needed (battery read "OK") and then I let it pull away slowly, It didn't take long and I could see white smoke from the bottom of the engine, and I was pretty sure I didn't turn on the smoke.

Right away killed the track power and took it off the rails and pulled the shell off. Didn't see any obvious burnt wires or electronics. I put it on the test bench and gave it go, everything powered up great, sound, lights worked and no signs of smoke. Then I moved it forward and backward slowly and there it was, a small whiff of smoke coming from the top of the motor under the flywheel from the motor with the tach reader.

I can't find the part number for the motor from MTH as I would just order a new one.
Anyone know where I can get a new motor?

Thanks!!!

I think buying the MTH motor will be far cheaper than having the gear and flywheel removed and put on a new motor.  I'm pretty sure there will be a lot of similar locomotives with the same motor and gear.

As far as the other motor being damaged, I'd probably do a bench test on it with a DC supply to check it's condition.  I'm not sure why you think it is likely damaged, that's not been my experience.  I've never had both motors go bad at the same time.  In the rare instance that I have had to replace a can motor in a diesel or dual-motored steamer, it's only been one motor.

I'd just send the motor to GGG and he can match it up for sure.
