This is a pretty basic question but I just want to make sure I'm following the proper procedure.  I have two loops which are electrically isolated from one another.  I am currently running TMCC with 2 TMCC powermasters with a PW ZW Transformer and a TMCC power base.  I have just purchased two new Legacy Powermasters.  Do I connect one wire each from the U terminals on my Legacy powermasters back to the TMCC command base?  Any help would be appreciated.

Hi OKHIKER.

If you are currently running with TMCC control on both loops, then you already have the track signal going to the outer rails on both loops. In this case, all that you need to do is to directly replace your TMCC PowerMasters with your new Legacy PowerMasters. (Power and track connections.)

If you wish, you can also connect a wire from the 'U' posts on the Legacy PowerMasters  back to your TMCC command base. But this is not mandatory if you have a good signal connection to the track. I have 3 Legacy PowerMasters on my layout, and these are just simply connected to the track. (And to their respective power supplies of course.)

OKHIKER,

You may want to look at the Lionel Legacy instructional Video's, some very good information in them, they are available on the Web, although the quality of them is nothing like Riches OGR stuff, wish Rich would do an OGR Video Guide to Legacy before my pre-ordered 990 Legacy comes in, his OGR instructional video's are the best stuff around.

Thanks Pine Creek.  I've done just that in an effort to be prepared when the 990 comes in.  Its kind of funny though because when TMCC came out way back in the 20th Century I was very intimidated by it since I wasn't then and still am not an electronics wizard by anyone's definition.  However, I was able to get everything up and running with a lot of help from Rich's OGR video.  Success is supposed to breed more success but that was 15 years ago.  So, I am nevertheless somewhat intimidated by the Legacy system especially after reading about the difficulties some people have had with it.  I'll keep my fingers crossed and give it a whack.  After all, you don't hit the ball unless you swing the bat.

OKHIKER,

I am waiting on the new Legacy 990 myself and told gunrunnerjohn if I have any problems I would be hitting him up for his technical knowledge, as I added the Legacy to the DCS package.  I was not intimidated by the DCS and from the looks of it, the Legacy hopefully should not be much of a problem for either of us. In reality however, I use to put computerized automatic welding equipment packages together at NASA, and I am more intimidated by this O guage DCS/Legacy equipment, than engineering billions of dollars of computerized Auto-Welding equipment, go figure.

If this is the right video - it talks you through setting up Legacy with TMCC.

Model Structures,

Thanks for the input.  I have looked over Lionel's videos pretty carefully and have decided to go all the way with Legacy 990 and the Legacy Powermasters rather than setting it up with my current TMCC configuration.  If things don't work out right I will have my old TMCC power base and TMCC powermasters in reserve.  Needless to say, I'm anxiously awaiting the arrival of the 990s.
