Hi,
I live in Buckeye, AZ. Lately, it has been well above seasonal average temperatures. The local temperatures have reached up to 120 degrees F, setting high temperature records, besides my main point.
I was at York, and saw some Lionel Cabooses melt in the sun, displayed by Grysbowski. So I had a superbass unit coming from Charles Ro, today. I knew it was coming, and just happened to be outside when UPS showed up. I took the box inside, immediately, getting it out of the rays of the sun. It's packed in Styrofoam. I opened it up right away to make sure it was okay. I COULD NOT touch the trucks on the model, they were so hot! The body (plastic) was literally as hot. I truly believe that if the package had sat in the hot sun waiting for someone to come home from work, the train body would have melted in the box.
So here is my caution: If you live in the southwest, and KNOW you have a train coming, do your best to make sure someone is there to receive it and get it into an air conditioned environment.
I'm not exaggerating, I COULD NOT TOUCH the trucks or wheels!
