Can anyone tell me if there is a good hot wire cutter that will last longer than a weak.

Every one I've ever owened has lasted longer than a week, from a battery operated Walmart special (the batteries don't last of course) to a Tippi which works great. Woodland Scenics makes a good one, also. You must have gotten a lemon. What happened to it?
I have the Woodland Scenic Hot Wire Cutter and I have experienced ZERO problems with it so far. I've used it on several different types of foam including the Pink Construction Foam. The only draw-back I can see is that you are limited to the depth of cut.

I have had two Woodland Scenic hot wire cutters. Both burned out within a week. At $54.00 I looking for something better.
I like the Tippi.
I make my own with woodland scenic nichrome wire (little replacement packs for their cutter). Just make a frame to stretch it and hook up and old DC power pack and turn the speed knob up till it cuts as desired, too much speed makes the foam smoke so slow down a bit if that happens. Making them this way allows very wide versions to be made so sheets of foam can be tapered for slightly sloping areas....DaveB
I have a Tippi, its about 10 years old now.

I have the Hot Wire Foam Factory, it's got lots of miles on it. I've replaced the wire once, and I push it with a train transformer rather than the anemic wall wart that came with it, that allows me to adjust the cutting speed as well as for the material I'm cutting. I have a roll of nichrome wire that I got for when the spare wires died, but I've yet to use it, and I still have two of the three nichrome wires that came with it. You must really be pushing the power to smoke them within a week!
I also use the Hot Wire Foam Factory. Works great every time, bought it three years ago, no complaints. I use the hand tools version. Go to there online sight.

OK, I'm sold. Do you get then at Hobby Lobby, Michaels, Etc., I looked on line and know they can be ordered. What model number?
I have a few coal loads to make, this will be my first attempt,
Thanks

You can buy it direct from the Hot Wire Foam Factory; Great product and you can also buy a variety of handheld wire cutters as well.
I got mine from someone that wanted to sell it cheap. I got a hand held foam cutter as well, but I've found the table to be the most useful.
