I am of course a big New York Central and Pennsylvania Railroad nut. I have researched some stuff on the NYC recently and came up with extremely limited information on some of the locomotives on their roster during certain time period(1940's is what my most recent research found, got a PDF which I still have to read over). I was wondering if there is some archive, Library of Congress, public records, any kind of resource that some of you use to dig up engine types, engine numbers, etc., etc. that would be helpful?

One of the only things that I have ever found that was somewhat helpful was a photo archive, which again I have not had the chance to go through thoroughly(a lot of stuff there to go through). It is Richard Leonard's Rail Archive(link below).

My favorite, quick, railroad resource website is American-rails.com. Though it is not comprehensive, there is some good locomotive roster info for almost all railroads of America.

Example: Last night I saw that Atlas is going to produce Baldwin VO1000 diesels, of which two will be numbered in NC&StL road. They are offering #30 and #33. So, out of curiosity I checked American-rails.com to verify engine numbers. Sure enough I found that NC&StL bought 6 Baldwin VO1000 locomotives, of which they were numbered 15, and 30-34. They were purchased from 1941 thru 1943.

I found this on the NYC on Friday, which was a pleasant surprise. I have no earthly idea where I got it from unfortunately. It is a small list of locomotives during the 1940's detailing quite a bit. I still have to read it, sort of browsed a lot and nearly fainted.

Interesting to find a NYC 2-8-0 on page 113 with a Belpaire firebox.
