I tried to suggest WD-40, but forgot to hit the “post” button. Don’t use it on the box.

I'll send it right over Strap'
Thanks everyone for their ideas. I had it wrapped in dryer sheets all day and while I was out this evening purchased a charcoal filter sheet. The package (I purchased a single car, not a RTR set) is all wrapped up in a time capsule cocoon now (Star Date 2021.09.06) and packed away in the laundry room. Will revisit it on Monday, wipe it down with dish soap and see - or smell - the results.
That looks pretty good Kevin'. I hope it works... If not, try some of that Florida fresh air' for a few days'... I'm not sure the car all wrapped up, there is no way for odor to escape. I also, can't believe that the smell is that strong. I don't see nay nicotine residue on the surface of the car. I purchased a Hudson steamer from Ebay, and it had that smoke and worse, mildew/mold smell.. I used the Mr.'s Murphy oil liquid soap. And it removed all the nasty odors.... So, if all else fails, give that a try'... Either way' good luck in solving the problem......👍
Well, I opened the time capsule and the method worked fine. In fact, the train had a fresh soft laundry scent from all of the dryer sheets. Very soothing.
Thanks for your ideas guys.
