Hi guys. I just got my first Mighty Sound of Steam engine, and it seems to cut out at higher speeds. I just had the tender apart (long story), and while I was in there I replaced the material under the board, just to be on the safe side. What could cause this? What causes the sound to be activated in the first place? To me, it seems like it's sticking a bit (like 6 or 7 revolutions per chuff).

Is there something that needs replacing or cleaning, or am I just noticing one of the characteristics of MSOS?

There are contacts associated with the smoke unit. Depending on the model the contacts may be dirty or they may not be making a complete connection at high speeds in that case you could bend them so they're closer together in the open position. It's also possible the smoke unit isn't properly grounded.

If your MSOS has a  power roller and grounded wheels on the tender check those connections first. As dirty wheels can also cause intermittent sound.
