I have 2 Lionel SC-2's (total of 12 switches) and 1 ASC (4 switches) in my inventory.  I am trying to plan out a yard with 13 switches and if you add the 3 switches taking you off the mainline (not shown) there will be 16 in this space.  I am wondering if I just go with the switches that came with the turnouts and mount them on the skirting or use these for TMCC control.

I viewed the Lionel vids on youtube and read some of the threads on the forum.  The vids aren't very educational and are older, but I did gather that they recommend the ASC over the SC-2 with Atlas turnouts.  The forum threads are 3-4 years old and speak of SC-2's.  Those indicate the SC-2's have signal dependable issues.  Also, I did not see that any of them were using Atlas track.  I also see that ASC's are still available but appear to be old technology since ASC-2's are out for use with the Legacy System.

I am soliciting some feedback on how many modelers are using either of these TMCC controllers with Atlas track.  In addition, please provide me feedback on your satisfaction with them and whether you recommend them over skirting switches.  Any other helpful suggestions on which to use and problems and solutions you had using them would also be welcome.

Thanks Guys

I have used ASCs originally from Lou Kovach and then from Lionel to operate up to 30 some ATLAS switches right out of the box. If I recall correctly one has to program it as momentary vs constant so as not to burn out the switch motor. The only issue was with the Atlas switches if they weren't lying flat and therefore would bind up. Best of luck.

I mounted my Atlas switch controllers next to the switches they operate ('skirting switches') and decided I liked them this way. Forgot all about the command control ideas I had originally. No TMCC controls, but I was going to use an MTH AIU to control them. Never bought one. Maybe someday, but they are fine for me as they are.

Personally, I would try the skirting switches and see what you thought of using them that way. You can always add the command control at a later time. If you still want to add command control, having both ways to control the switches might come in handy.
