Retired from Pennsylvania public schools after 39 years service. There was never a dull moment! I taught, coached football wrestling and baseball. I was an athletic director, assistant high school principal, elementary principal, high school principal, and also 2 (short) stints as "acting superintendent of schools". The majority of my career was as a high school principal. I loved working with kids.

I sometimes think about writing a book about all the funny stuff over the course of those years.

One of my favorites takes place at a Pep Rally in the gym. I'm the MC and lead a few cheers.....direct a skit or two......then introduce some of the senior boys from the student body who are shirtless and are decorated with large brown letters painted painted on their chests spelling...."GO RAMS".

When I turned around with my back to the boys and facing the student body (1249 or so) ....the boys had shuffled around to spell ....."ORGASM" !!!!

The place went hysterical.....one of my tech teachers fell over in laughter......I had no idea what was going on until I slowly turned around. I lost it as well...way too funny for words. I laugh every time I think about those boys. They were pretty clever! Tom in PGH

I taught for 33 years. One year in a Brooklyn, NY public school and the other years in the Sachem School Dist. on Long Island as an elementary school teacher. Retired in 2002. It was challenging at times, but thankfully rewarding to experience so many children, parents, and colleagues. Living in New Hope,PA I now substitute in a public school across the Delaware River in New Jersey. Still luvin' it!

I left the business world at age 35, and started teaching elementarty school. Over the years, I have taught grades K-12 and College. Recently, I have been involved with Purdue University promoting Engineering in the elementary schools. The pay is low, the administration insane, and the attitude of parents can be really depressing at times. However, when students come back years later and thank you for being tough, caring, and believing in them, everything else does not matter. Knowing that I made a difference     is the ultimate reward. I want to thank all the educators on the forum that helped shape the future.
