When I worked in TV out of Oakland California, I would wonder a few blocks away to look at the WP. Their yard was next to Southern Pacific's yard. WP was tiny next to SP. I always liked underdogs, that's why I model Milwaukee Road. Just wondering are there many Western Pacific fans out there. Don

Don,

I used to model WP & TS some 25+ years ago. My 20'X30' trainroom had three layouts. My Std & O-Gauge tinplate layout, one each N Scale and HO. My TS took up my HO, my WP was enjoyable in N Gauge. Being a Modesto native I was raised with WP & TS in constant view. My father retired from SP then worked M&ET until his death. Do I dare say those were the good ol days.

I came into a beautiful restored AA set of PW Western Pacific F3's when I fist got into the hobby in 1989. They inspired me to keep an eye out for more WP although there wasn't much of it back then!

In planning a new  layout for sometime in the future, I hope  to have a 'coast to coast' theme featuring Santa Fe, WP, SP on the left coast with ACL, FEC, Southern, GM&O, and Seaboard to the right.

Am looking for a suitable basement now...

Sam, There is a video floating around somewhere that a friend had taken of the train at one of our shows. I will try and locate it.

I think I have most if not all of the K-Line cars plus Atlas Industrial Rail, Lionel, Williams and RMT. More than my little engine can pull now. I am sure the Lionel Legacy Mikado could handle that train but the semi scale engine is more in keeping in the spirit of the traditional cars.

Seems to me that, for it's size, the Western Pacific was well represented on toy/model diesel engines and freight cars.  And of course, since WP  was partnered in the three RR's that operated the famed California Zephyr, those cars have been represented on models over the years.  Not sure if they actually showed the WP ownership on about 1/3 of the cars.

As to steam engines, not saying that none have ever been produced, but i can't remember any.  Possibly a WP Daylight style engine but that's about it.  Be nice to see a scale rendition of one of their engines.
