I've been buying and collecting mth premier proto one steamers and diesels since 1995.the premier f3's back then blew me away

with the metal screening and cab interiors.the steamers were fantastic at that time-a friend of mine had the premier nyc empire express steamer in premier-when I heard the robust sound and smoke I was hooked-I still have the c&o 2-6-6-6 plus the n&w class a and the up big boy in premier-I remember getting the catalog the big boy was featured in and debated on ordering it-

1400.00 then plus dealers were very restricted to 2 of each premier items ordered.

I passed as I thought 1400.00 for a toy engine was crazy.i use to get catalogs and videos from mth showing off their products.

seems everything in premier was sky rocketing in value and met several guys who bought everything in premier. miss those days

-just wondering if I am the only one who still love these engines produced in nkorea-I know proto 2 and 3 have more add on

sounds and gimmiks and dcs is better-for me if you do not have a large layout proto one fit the bill.

let's hear it forum members who still collect-run-buy-proto one engines.

My collection of early MTH Proto 1 Premier engines includes roadnames which are not being produced with Proto 2 or 3. Although they do not have the detailing the new versions have they can be run along with my other conventional power engines.  With a few exceptions I have been buying mostly Premier versions.

I have a PS-2 update kit that I will use to update at least one of the engines.

This is one of my vintage MTH PS-1 engines.

Always liked 027 gauge stuff.....When railking came out with that K4, a reasonably priced die-cast loco and tender with the correct wheel arrangement (as opposed to lionels 675, 2035 etc.) and protosounds, I had to have it. I got the railking torpedo and railking  pacific with protosounds, still have and run them to this day.

they're just fun to run!!

I got into trains after MTH went to Proto-2.

That said, I have and use 2 PS-1 Galloping Geese. The sound sets in them are incredible. I now have a PS-3 Goose and find it's sounds to be dissapointing in comparison.

So I will be adding Command Control to the ones I have and will continue to prefer them.

And I just remembered, I still have a PS2 upgrade kit waiting for the right PS-1 Steam engine to come along. I was going to upgrade my old conventional Starter set engine but after getting some Imperial Railking engines it just does not interest me anymore.

I still have a lot of proto 1 diesels but have upgraded most of my proto 1 steam engines to proto 2 except my N&W Y6b.  They all still run great with BCR's in all of them.  I will still buy proto 1's when I see a good deal.  Recently bought the Southern A-B-A F unit set with both A units powered.  Recently my 2900 class Santa Fe Northern stipped a gear but that has nothing to do with proto 1.  Don't know what I'm going to do with that one since MTH does not have parts for it.  Too bad because I had it upgraded too.  All in all, I would still buy proto 1 anytime I see a good deal.

I agree with PTC (Brian), I have a set of Premier PAs that I've added a DD Equalizer to (Thanks GunRunnerJohn).

The sound is good and they can pull!  The lead PA can pull its dummy sister, my full rake of 6 K-Line 18" Pacemaker, with one or two express reefers and about 4-5 MTH 18" heavyweights.  All day long!

I have an ABA set of scale F3s to switch to TMCC/sound (eventually)...

MTH F3 - 1

MTH F3 - 3

MTH PAs

Thanks,

Mario
