While I enjoy all types of trains and started out with a RTR Set from Lionel. I became fascinated with the subway sets by MTH.

Hi FEC. I have 15 subway sets with add-ons for each.  These represent all that I fondly remember riding as well as those that I enjoyed seeing at the Transit museum. Although subways are the cornerstone of my collection, I also dabble in LIRR and military rail items.    In fact, I've been having a blast building tanks, trucks and other loads for repainted military flat cars. I just need to build that second layout for a military/Long island rural themed layout in one of my empty nest kid's rooms and I'm all set, LOL!.

Nice! I'm like you I'm also heavy in to the military loads. Its hard to find 1/43 US models WW2 era. I think 1/35 is too big.

I've been stocking up on Tamiya, Hobby boss and now Atlantis for my 1/48 WW2/Korea era loads. I just bought a few Howitzer guns and an army fuel truck from Atlantis. All are in 1/48 and will make great loads. Check them out. I've also purchased a few of the Hobbyboss and Atlantis 1:48 Military kits at Hobby Lobby on Pines Blvd.

You can also order direct from Atlantis for decent prices -

Paint  these olive drab and stick on some army stickers and you’re good to go -

Not counting the R40 2-Car Add-on, I have three full R21 4-car subway sets, 2 in HO, and now a Redbird in O that I just purchased yesterday at Ready to Roll Trains here in Miami.

It's positioned right next to me at my desk at home along with my other interests where I've working remotely for the past year plus.

I had one of these in the past and sold it - big mistake.  I jumped at the opportunity when I saw one come up.

P.S. - Yes #Strap Hanger and #bluelinec4, whom I've been conversing with offline on another topic, with this purchase of the Redbird it looks like I've changed my mind   in a big way

Nice pickup, Kevin! The R-21s were my first MTH subway purchase because they reminded me of the R-33 Redbirds I’d been riding into Manhattan from Queens back in the late 80s/early 90s. I was going to change all the signage to #7 line, but I’m glad I didn’t (particularly since mth eventually came out with a #7 redbird).

So now you’re back on the Ogauge wagon? You better start building quick before you change your mind once again, LOL!

I have 2 complete sets of the MTH #6200 CTA 4-Car & 2-Car Subway Sets....with the Green Roofs ..plus a set of the #6200 CTA with the very rare Cream Roof Set. When I was a kid when I lived on the South Side of Chicago, I use to ride the Douglas Park Line from one end of the line to the other. That was fun...back than.

  You got that right!

Kevin, nice set. I'm glad Bill and Vinny at Ready2Roll are open again, love that place.

Yup, they opened the showroom to the public a couple weeks back.  Bill's sold a bunch of subway sets recently from an estate sale I think.  I wasn't paying attention to eBay so I missed most of them.  Caught this one though.

I love the CTA trains also, especially these two.  In my 70's frame of mind, whenever I see the Green & Tan L trains, the opening themes from both the "The Bob Newhart Show" and "Good Times" come front and center.  Newhart taking a walking tour of Downtown Chicago to take the L home, which I later learned that his meandering walking route made no sense at all in order for him to take the train to his northern suburban apartment.  Nowadays I get my CTA L fix watching episodes of Chicago P.D., where they appear multiple times on screen.  But I digress...

I think these are all the ones I have so far.

You're building an excellent collection, Corey. Nice choice of sets and nice photos.  However, what I really love is the bachelor pad operating environment. Reminds me of my first apartment, LOL!

Hey, time to open up those front engines and place a few of these in -

(they also make one specifically for MTH railking subways. He has one leg missing so he can be better inserted into the front cab, but I've also glued in the linked one above with little problems)

🤣🤣🤣🤣Thank you. My gf has already accepted that if we live together, there will be a train room!

I bought mine as they came out over the years, with the intent to assemble ten-car trains of each, with a few exceptions. At the moment I have:

  1. R-42: 2 sets + 1 add-on
  2. R-17: 2 sets + 1 add-on (silver/blue)
  3. R-21: 2 sets + 1 add-on (Redbird scheme)
  4. R-32: 2 sets + 1 add-on (add-on assembled from parts, both cars have the same number)
  5. R-36: 2 sets + 1 add-on + 2 on flatcars + 1 R33S (World's Fair)
  6. R-40: 2 sets + 1 add-on
  7. R-62: 2 sets + 1 add-on
  8. R-142: 2 (five-car) sets
  9. Lo-V: 1 set (emulates operational museum consist)
  10. R-1: 1 set + 1 add-on (emulates operational museum consist minus R-10 prototype)
  11. CTA 3200 series: 2 sets
  12. MOW "rider cars": 4
  13. MOW diesels: 2 RMT Bangs
  14. Ballast hoppers: 4 (Nassau Hobbies special run)

It seems I have quite a subway fleet...

(edited 9/3 to update r142's as twin 5-car sets)

(edited again 11/4/22 to change ballast hoppers to 'received' status)

Hey railride, how did that CTA train get in there?, LOL!

A friend of mine, one who did most of the subway announcements (RIP) had in his photo collection, a shot of a CTA car in the Brooklyn Navy Yard, with Manhattan in the background. I think it was among a number being rebuilt by a contractor there. Pretty sure it wasn't a 3200 series though.

I wasn't terribly discriminatory when it came to subways. I was seriously thinking of adding the PCC-style CTA cars in the bicentennial scheme, but procrastinated and failed to pull the trigger in time.

And here I thought it was just a momentary lapse of reason/impulse buy on your part, LOL!

I have a lot of subway sets.  Nearly every ny subway that mth made.  This pic is the collection of a fellow club member.  I think I have him beat though.  9B7CFE4B-F9A5-4F51-B028-76679C9FCC67My favorite set is the r1.  At one time I had seven sets of them.  Currently have 3

Bruce clearly likes subways but judging from his collection, he really, really, really likes R-62s and worlds fair Q types (with Lo-Vs a close third), LOL!
