Purchased several older Brakeman cars for grandsons layout....now the rub...how do you use the Tell tales to operate Brakeman on MTH and or Lionel new style trackage versus the older open rail o guage track. Appreciate your help.

I always thought that they were "Tell-Tails".
Very creative, Train Nut. Now I have to add that to my list of things to do.

You most likely right of course. But spell checks don't care much for hyphens it seems. I'm torn between needing them and hating them. Not many computers seem to have much use for the dash anymore either; "just another space"
I found a close up of how the ropes are strung from the tell tale pole. Even though the need for these disappeared years ago, many still exist and make an interesting addition to any layout with a tunnel or bridge. The Lionel tell tale is very close to accurate except that you will never find orange pole and white tell tales in the real world. Painting them grimy black or dirty brown should be pretty close to real.
I am not going to modify mine in any way. A childhood memory that I can still touch.
AAh, more like twine than rope.
(there is a real train thread on tell-tales at the moment... Oops...tell-tails....?)
