I have many post war Lionel engines. When I look on ERR website to see what board to choose I see unknown.

I want sound and maybe remote control. I run O gauge on tubular track. I use the ZW transformer to control the trains. I bought 2 lion chief trains to see what was new. WHOW I love the sounds and the remote is fun too. So I may upgrade the engines to sound and remote control but I an at a loss as to how to do it.

Will I need a Lionel TMCC Legacy controller? So before I spend a lot of money I need some guidance. I have been a train collector since the 50' but stoped to raise my kids. I am retired am starting to get back into this. I have a 16 x 8 layout i am building now. I am a TCA member since 79 but need HELP.

Thank you for any help.

First off, if you want remote control and you're using the ERR stuff, you'll need a TMCC or Legacy command system.  The lower cost entry point is the Lionel O 6-37147 CAB-1L Remote Control and Base 1L Command Set, less than $200.  This is a one-time expense as you can control all the TMCC or Legacy engines you acquire with this unit.

There are really two basic motor drive boards I'd recommend, and they're based on the type of motor in your chosen locomotive.

If you have AC open frame motors, you'll want the ERR AC Commander, if you have can motors, I recommend the ERR Cruise Commander.

For either of these choices, you can pair them with an appropriate ERR RailSounds Commander kit for sounds.

There are other bits and pieces you might need, electrocouplers, tethers for steam upgrades, etc.

If you have more questions, I do tons of these installations, and I'm also an ERR dealer.

Good Afternoon GRJ,

I have two K Line Locomotives that just have me baffled as to what is going on with them.  I have posted before about my K-4, but everything suggested did not seem to be the answer.  I am therefore considering purchasing the Cruise Commander M.  On the ERR Site it references a "Kit".  Would the "Kit" include the Radio Board as in one area it does mention the R4LC board as included but not under the Cruise Commander M description.  All I know is that the K-4 seems to listen to the commands sent to it but in increasing the speed on the remote has very little affect.  All other commands seem to be excepted by the electronics.  BTW the other Locomotive exhibiting the same symptoms is a K Line GG1.

So my question does the Kit include the radio board and can I purchase these item(s) through you?
