Why, it's just this easy! Simply punch the button (not your wife, Ralph!) and take a cue from Mr. Rational-train-guy Joe McDoakes, who has model training all figured out...

You are now a train guy. Discovering this old movie removes the guilt that you have been dealing with all these years. It's now ok to say "I just need it".
Watch it with your spouse and anything that you do will be far below Joe's exploits...or so they will think.
Very good, just sent it to my wife? LOL
To be honest the best way to get a train as a friend says " it's better to ask for forgiveness than beg for a train set. "
I tell my wife that hobbies keep me out of the bars while she is at work.
(good luck with that)
Normally, I don't enjoy threads with this sort of title. If you can't afford the trains, you shouldn't be buying them, especially if you have to hide them from your wife. I've always been a believer of living with your means.
BUT that said, this video was just hilarious! I'd never seen or heard of this one before. What a laugh. Especially the very ending of it... I won't give it away, but that was excellent! Thanks for posting that Virginian65!
My wife wanted to know why I would need more than one engine. I asked why she needs more than one pair of shoes. Honestly she is not a shoe collecting person but she isn't wearing her sneakers to church. I'm not running an SD-70 MAC in for switching. They have different functions. We also do not wear the same outfit every day or eat the same nutritionally complete meal every day because variety is nice. She appreciated that.
I'm on the other end of this. No way was I going to approach my wife and ask about spending $1500 on a MTH R2 2-8-8-2. She approached me...
I find that Joe McDoakes short on model trains quite funny.
I am one of the lucky ones, my wife encourages me to buy whatever I want.
I believe in "What goes around, comes around". Wife came home with 2 new coats and happily said to me ' look what I got on sale'. I replied 'You're such a lucky woman to find great buys like that, I envy you'. Guess what I said to her about my ABBA Atlas Rio Grande diesels? My world is a good place to be.

Why you should never start your layout out on carpet!
That was enjoyable--I had to laugh at taking over the living room, since my trains are in the living room/dining room.
Folks,
FYI there is an episode of the old Ozzie and Harriet show back in the 50's or so. RIcky decides to sell his trains to buy a chemistry set. Ozzie really didn't want to see the trains go. He goes back to the hobby and buys not only Ricky's but some new stuff.
It is all very funny. I can't find the link I had saved for the episode but I am sure it can be found by searching.

Wifes says whats that.. Joes says a train she goes oh.. Yes its that simple..
Just let the collection accumulate in the basement. By the time it gets noticed so will the fact that the bills are getting paid.
Most likely she is doing the same anyway.
Never talk to your wife; nothing good can come from it.
My wife is treated with dignity, respect, devotion, consideration and kindness but she knows not to interfere in my hobbies and is often supportive. My whole life I have run my many hobbies how I like them, when I like them and spent what was necessary. No explanation to anyone is ever necessary. With my hobbies she doesn't get a vote and when it comes to her hobbies and likes, I never get in her way as well.

My wife is the same.we work very hard for what we have. And she encourages me to spend on myself. I do get the occasional"that cost how much question?!" But she never picks at it
I showed both of the linked videos to my wife and she found great comfort knowing that she wasn't alone in her "life's struggles".

When my wife was alive she owned and boarded 3 horses. I got to spend about 10% but, oh, to have her still with me.

I've done it. It was the only one I had with proto couplers.
