I know there has been many posts on converting rolling stock for the TMCC enviroment. I did a search but could not find my answer.
Any way I have a couple cabooses id like to use that have been in boxes for quite a long time for fear i would melt them down. Whats the simplist way to modify these to run on the 18-20 volt track? (besides turning the smoke switch off.)

MRC makes a little circuit board called a voltage reducer or some such. It cuts about 4.5 volts out of the circuit using diodes. You could build your own similar to that. Each pair of diodes in parallel (one each way), takes out about .5 to .75 volts.
Put a 3 amp diode in series to the smoke unit and or bulb. This will cut the voltage by half.

Dale's solution works great for the K-Line, since you end up with half wave, and half the power, it cuts down the current just about right. 
Even safer is to never run any of your trains, just leave them in the boxes. Better yet, leave them in the store.
