hi everyone! just joined the forum. long story short, i unplugged the battery from the board, plugged it back in, and now when i apply power to the track, the relay clicks a couple of times and i get absolutely nothing out of it. what happened, and what can i do about it? i'm really trying to avoid buying a whole new board, if possible.

thanks!

dan

Try deleting the loco from the remote and then, with no other locos on powered tracks, try adding it.

If you turned on power and started up the loco with the battery unplugged, when you shut it down it would have lost its identity.  On shut down, the PS2 board writes data to its memory using power from the battery.

Did you do this while the engine was powered up?  The multiple clicking relay is the sign of a short causing the board to shut off and restart rapidly.

Best to stop powering up the board until the power supply board is repaired if this is a PS-2 3V.  Otherwise you risk damaging both boards.

Need to send to a tech who does component level repairs.   G

You just stated you applied power to the track.  I am not a very smart person and feel I have missed something by you stating you applied power to the track.  Will it run in conventional?  For what reason did you need to unplug the battery?

Are you running DCS or conventional?  What is the MTH product number?  Is this a new engine or a fleabay queen?

g asked if power was applied when i unplugged the battery and plugged it back it. i did not. i only applied power to the track afterwards. it will not run in conventional. i unplugged it because i was led to believe that it would serve the same purpose as a factory reset. it is dcs, but it's the z500 version that came with the set, not the one with the tiu. the mth product number for the set was 30-4205-1. that's the only number i could come up with. it was bought brand new by me about 4 years ago or so. it has the light blue battery.

Just my two cents; the battery was most likely dead and needed to be charged overnight. I have quite a few MTH steam locomotives with that same 2.0 system, and I always charge the battery overnight, with the MTH battery charging accessory, prior to ever putting the model on the track.

I don't understand why so many people power up PS 2 3 volt dcs engines after the train has been sitting for years and expect it to run, any engine i have not run in a long time always charge or check the battery BEFORE POWERING UP THE ENGINES, sure is much cheaper if you don't blow the boards!
