At the Atlanta O scale show I purchased a boat load of old model RR magazines. I went through all of f them removing drawings and plans. When I found this I knew I had to build it. I’m not lettering it for H&BT but my own shortline.

Very nice model, but I'm glad you aren't going to letter it for the home road because it's Huntingdon & Broad Top Mountain RR, I think.

Chuck,
I thought is was but the plans from ModelRailroader said Huntington. I believe you are correct.
Malcolm
Huntingdon & Broad Top is correct, as confirmed by a glance an an Employee timetable.
Full name was Huntingdon & Broad Top Mountain Railroad and Coal Co.
They variously used initials H&BT, H&BTM, and H&BTMRR&CCo. on their lanterns etc. Don’t blame them for looking for a shortcut...
What issue of ModelRailroader had the plans in it?
How did you make the 4-wheel truck and pedestals for the wheels?
I, too, have old model magazine plans collections of my favorite railcars, shortline cabeese, in their great many varieties. Hope you have desire and time to gin out more, and post them. As for the pedestal question above asked by "mwb", Bob Peare's "Train Craft" series includes a bobber whose chassis could be used/modified. I have a tiny freelance side door bashed from one of these kits.
Beautiful, Malcolm! Can’t wait to see it completed.
Malcolm,
If you like plans, get your hands on issues of "Mainline Modeler"!
It's no longer in publication, but not that tough to find.

Martin,
O scale plans and a very brief description were published in Model Railroader Magazine, August 1953, page 51. The plans show the truck with a 8'-6" wheelbase and 33" wheels.
The Model Train Magazine Index is a handy website to bookmark.
The Mainline Modeler Magazine Complete Collection is available as a searchable DVD from the C&O Historical Society.
Thanks,
Old Goat

Yes. That seems to have been mislaid during a computer update once upon a time....used to have another mag index link as well that had been crowd sourced......and now that too seems gone.

I do remember hearing about that being made available.
Martin,
Old goat answered your questions and I thank him. I was without internet yesterday as another round of storms came through our area.
I used Grandt Line 141 pedestals. They are C&S but all I could find. It was my only set and I wish I had more of them.
Thanks, Malcolm
San Juan's website has a "Y" next to availability for the pedestals. I presume that means "yes, they are available". Might be worth a call or email.
When I called the people that bought Grandt Line they were super nice and responsive. I'm sure you can get he pedestals if you want them.
Thanks, I’ll try them! I’ve got a couple of more bobbers I want to build.
Nicely done Malcolm. Hopefully next month I'll be ready to post pictures of H&BT train #2, featuring a model of combine # 29 custom built by Malcolm. I have one car left to complete - a brass RPO kitbash.
