I have just been kicked off this site because of yet another pop up survey offering useless junk for wasting my time. Those annoying add videos that are constantly  popping up at the lower left hand corner of my screen are even worst.

Other then blowing off a little steam my reason for this post is to ask who are responsible for this outrageous attach on my leisure time?

If it is generated at the site that I may be on please OGR stop this. But if as I expect it is a product of Comcast my provider I really would appreciate any advice on how to get it to stop, because it is really driving me away from the internet all together.

That said I do appreciate the site supporter adds that appear on this page. They not only provide us with this wonderful web site they also offer wonderful service that I have utilized many times in the past and will continue to do so in the future, that is if these pop ups don't drive me back to readings books altogether.

It's not OGR and very doubtful it's your ISP or provider. You have picked up a bit of malware/Adware. Usually these come from add-ons like browser toolbars etc They are a real PITA to get ride of.

Look in your internet setting and see if your default search engine has changed for a hint of where it comes from. Then Google it to see to remove, but like I said they are tough to rid yourself of.

Also download AdAware and see it finds it or take the machine to the shop, they deal with this a lot

You've probably managed to install some adware or malware on your computer somehow, and that's where the ads are coming from.

Normal vanilla web browser access to this site has NEVER brought up pop-up ads for me, save for the occasional demand to sign up as a premium member.

That said, "third party" ads, legitimate ads, support the websites you visit every bit as much as the sponsor ads support this site. Not sure where you draw the line...

Also download and run MalwareBytes. let it update its definition file and scan your system. I was able to rescue a netbook that inadvertently caught a 'fake antivirus' malware that wouldn't let me run any utilities. I used a System Restore in Safe Mode to back up to a point before the infection, and MalwareBytes killed off the remnants.

If you are able to re-set your browser to the original settings, this may get rid of those pesky ads.

Jeff Davis

Even if you reset the browser, the malware program will restore their settings when you reboot. You need to deep clean the machine and sometime even the registry to remove them.

Like I said, they suck to get rid of.

You can set the ad-blocker to allow ads from OGR and other sites. Usually if you right click where the ad should be, you will get the option to allow

I picked up some of that crap a couple months ago when I tried to add Firefox to a computer. I went in and removed all the programs that were added that day. There might have been a half a dozen of them, because the first one in brings "friends". Undoing it by hand took a while, but everything seems to have gone back to normal.

You could try restoring to a date prior to when the trouble started, if you have restore points.

I am tired of receiving all of this ad rubbish that some sites automatically connect you to so I took action. This type of unsolicited garbage is an arrogant violation of your privacy and cannot be tolerated. .

Just set your browser to not accept third party cookies or browser extensions.  The setting is in the advanced section of internet options. When I pull up a web page my browser will always reject all additional third party services.  I also use in-private browsing and CC cleaner to get out anything that might get through.

Also, get a copy of Super Antispyware (free version), keep it updated and run it weekly.

Ditto....ditto....and ditto.

Also, if his adware is that bad I bet he has a virus or two as well.

I would not buy anything on the internet or do anything that requires a username and pw, especially financials, as you are probably already tagged.

So clean that PC up with a good anti virus, anti malware, anti spyware, etc etc etc

Mario, what you are experiencing is NOT something originating from this site. We don't have ANY pop-up ads, windows, etc. here. In fact, the software running this site is not capable of and does not allow that. You are the victim of a browser hijack, some malware or a malevolent cookie.

I would suggest you clear ALL your cookies and your internet cache and see if that fixes things. If it does not, then you'll have to look deeper.

The bottom line is that unfortunately the problem you are experiencing is a problem in your computer, not this forum's server.

I am not having this problem, I have Time Warner for an ISP. Take the advice of the others and look for toolbars or other ad promoting software and try to remove it. Many removal programs mentioned, probably all good.

You have to watch anything you install now as many things have toolbars they try to install along with the program you want to install. I got a Google tool bar from upgrading something a while back and disabled it in Internet Explorer. Youtube stopped working and I didn't figure out it was the tool bar until I found the darn thing again a few weeks later. I un-installed it, all was normal once again.

It does not matter who your ISP is, what matters are the sites you go to.

Just remember guys..."Oh what a wicked world wide web we have weaved"...

Web Surfer beware...and if you do not have "active" virus and other malware protection, it is open season on you.

Just going to ANY website, even legitimate ones, will at least DO SOMETHING....

Why? Because the companies with these websites such as CNN, Google, Amazon, Popo Pizza, doesnt matter...they do not provide a free service.

At the very least your information will be sold as a sales lead.

Once you click on a site, there is only your security settings between you and some degree of mischief.

I never get pop-ups nor see ads on You Tube.  I have Adblock Plus installed on my primary browsers and I have Malwarebytes Anti-Malware which runs every night. I've also got firewall and anti-virus software.  One downside--if I want to see the OGR sponsors at the top of the page I have to us a browser without Adblock Plus.

Go to your control panel,  then look for programs and features.  click on that icon, and allow all of programs tofill the screen.  Look at the date, if you have something dated

this year (especially) within last few months,  right click, and it will give you a choice of unistall.  You'll have to reboot computer after this process.  The tool bar shopping programs are a pain in the a----.

If you haven't already, definitely download Malwarebytes AntiMalware.   It is by far the best malware removal tool.   I've used it time and time again to rescue relatives and friends PCs (never mine of course!).    When you install it there is no need to activate the trial for the pay for Pro version.  the free version is fully functional for a removal scan.

Good luck.

To opt out of or opt back into being grouped with other customers for the delivery of interest-based advertising, you'll need to sign in first. You will still see ads, but they won't be tailored to the likely interests of certain groups of customers.

2) Apple iPad does have Ads, but there are more ways to block them with an Apple iPad than WinTel devices. You can block ads with both Apple devices and WinTel devices, it all comes down to how your device is set.

More importantly, not seeing ads will not protect you.

Yes, it cuts down on mischief, but the mere fact you are on the internet means as we I.T. professionals call it; you are "out in the wild" and "across the DMZ".

Just going to any website, will 99.9% of the time result in "something".

The degree to which it is NOT malicious or IS malicious depends on the web site.

Good luck.
