With MTH stepping out I would expect to see the interest tick up a little...

Actually for me it's the total opposite.   I would like know about any future plans for future dcs support,  but a lionel catalog coming out without the competing MTH catalog is kinda depressing. Even if I see something high end that I really like, it won't run with my preferred control system.

I don't even look at the new catalogs anymore.   I'll bet I am not alone in this.  What do you guys think?

Who knows? You may not be alone, but on the Forum at least you are in a distinct minority. The arrival of the new Lionel catalog gets quite a buzz here every year with pages of follow up posts on "what will you order?" Lionel has their issues (pick a topic) but that doesn't stop the new catalog release from being a notable occasion here.

So, yeah, I'll bet the vast majority "look" at the catalogs.

I will qualify my statement about not looking at the new catalogs by saying that I have been priced out of the market for new trains and the BTO items especially.  My tastes are simpler, anyway, and I'm not spending $100 on one flatcar with trailer or cars with sound effects.  I am satisfied with holding tight and plucking some of the really nice (used) items that have been produced by all of the O scale manufacturers in the past 15-20 years.  Those deals suit me much better.   And the items purchased on this forum have been extremely satisfying.

You guys who ARE buying the new items as they come out are keeping the hobby alive and for that I thank you.
