A replay and modification of all the sets from 60 years ago.

Lionel 57

No magnatraction and AC motors...all can motors with traction tires. All sets with sound.
O27 sets have LionChief or LionChief Plus.
SuperO is re-introduced with wider curve radii and switches.
The O gauge and SuperO sets all have Legacy.
All accessories and operating cars are command controlled.

Now that would be a show-stopper!

Peter

BTW......I've been home most of the week rehabing my L knee surgery. I think I have inhaled too much scented MegaSteam!

Super O track would replace my fastrack on the layout as soon as available!

DANDEO50:

That's quite a telling comment and I'm sure there are many who share your outlook.  I'm not a Super O guy but for your sake -- and for Lionel's sake -- I hope Lionel is listening.

Any time a manufacturer can sell something that's so good it induces hobbyists to replace what they already have, everyone wins:

  • The purchaser, because he's a happy guy

  • Lionel, because they get to sell the same thing twice

  • Budget-minded hobbyists because they get a fresh supply of good used items

My fingers are crossed for you.

I see F3s or F7s in GN, MP, T&P, SF, UP...

Gp7/9 Geeps in M&Stl, T&P, CB&Q, Rio Grande yellow stripe, and SP black widow.

Ok, yea SP AC9...  but also PRR K4s in smooth postwar pilot, new steam engine that is too small for my taste... wish it was a PRR Q1 or Q2.

More SD40s, UP, SF, Rio grande

Lets see i will add to the fantasy...  U boats in WP green with the B trucks...

Hopefully U boats in Chessie System...

 Finally a C&O greenbreier...

I see a 2 8 8 4 yellowstone too...

Lets see...  while im dreaming...  alco PA in nyc, and tuscan PRR...

Traction tires are a disaster.    they always work loose and foul the rods on steamers and derail both them and diesels.   It takes a lot of work to replace them on steamers, the rods have to come off.

Magne traction was a good design/idea.    It does require steel track which rusts, but on permanent layouts, where the track is not stored in damp places that should not be a problem.    The Detroit Model RR club has been around for over 50 years in at least 2 locations and their standard has always been steel rail.    The current layout is at least 40 years old and has rail that was laid when they started it.    It might have come from a previous layout.
