Is a firmware update needed for a PS3 engine from 2013?

IRON HORSEOGR Forum Member SUPPORTING MEMBERDIGITAL SUBSCRIBER

I purchased a MTH 30-20176-1 MU 4 car set. I'm struggling with the passenger station sounds -- can't get any. After reading past posts on this set I am wondering if a firmware update might be needed. Any suggestions? There is very little info on DCS in the manual that came with this set.
