Hi All,

After a 20+ year hiatus from model trains, I now have a new Lionel Fastrack + Legacy + LCS + WiFi layout setup and (mostly) working!

This weekend I got the Wifi Module working in conjunction with the Legacy base and the iCab application. My goal was to model the layout in iCab and be able to control the Command/Control switches from the App.

On the one hand, the iCab app worked well - I eventually got things working. On the other hand, I've had nothing but problems getting this far and am still stumped in a few areas.

Can anyone answer:

1. The iCab app is missing critical track pieces (such as "X" pieces, 1/4 track pieces, etc). I can't get anything to lineup correctly as a result.

2. There's no way to easily model a 2nd level. I ended with a 2nd screen, which seems sub-optimal.

3. Are there other apps that may work better?

Has anyone modeled their system with iCab, and if so, what did you do about all the missing track pieces?

Cheers,

Chris

First off I believe you are talking about the LCS App.  The iCab is for operating engines much like the Cab2.  The LCS is the layout control App for iPad.

LCS according to Lionel was never intended to be a program that exactly replicates your layout.  It was intended to be a facsimile.  It was also intended to model areas rather than the whole layout, especially larger layouts.  So on one "panel" you may have a yard.  On another you may have the main line running across the front of your layout, and on a third your upper level.

My layout was divided into 2 panels.  An over all and then a detailed small yard.

You are indeed correct - I confused the iPhone app with the iPad app. The iPad App I'm using is called "LCS", and found on the Lionel page here

Seeing the app, it is indeed "almost" a facsimile. I was hoping for some "additional track" package or similar. I've used a Windows based track modeling software for FastTrack and was optimistic it would be a similar interface on the iPad.

On the plus side, I am able to control all my fancy new switches! I just wish the model more closely modeled the actual layout.

I'll keep hoping they include a track pack update that at least includes the shorter tracks and the cross-over "X" tracks used for a figure eight.

Cheers,

Chris
